We love building relationships with amazing rescues in Canada, United States and Mexico. We have very high and strict standards that we expect from any organization we work with on belhalf of our Companion Paws Therapy Dog Adoption Program. Please review the below information about our dog guidelines and how to become an Approved Companion Paws Dog Rescue.

Minimum Standard Dog Guidelines

  • Age range of 1.5 to 5 year’s old
  • Good with dogs, kids and adults (cats when applicant has a cat.)
  • Calm temperament
  • Low/medium energy level
  • Gentle, very friendly and loving
  • Confident (not fearful or separation anxiety)
  • Healthy
  • Spayed/Neutered
  • 15-60 pounds (adjusted for specific needs of the applicant)
  • No aggression or reactivity
  • Not a jumper
  • Quiet (not a barker)

Medical and Vaccination Requirements

  • Comprehensive exam
  • Blood Tests
  • Xrays
  • Fecal antigen
  • Spayed or Neutered
  1. Snap 4dx
  • Anaplasma
  • Ehrlichia
  • Lyme
  • Heartworm
  1. Rabies Vaccine
  2. Quintuple Vaccine
  • Distemper
  • Bordetella
  • Parvo
  • Adenovirus
  • Leptospirosis

Other Requirements

  • Bathing
  • Nail clipping
  • Teeth cleaning
  • Ear cleaning

Dog Suitability Assessment (TLC’s Companion Paws Dog Assessment Form is to be completed for each dog)

4 Pictures of the potentially suitable dog, plus 4 videos.

Video 1 – walking on leash
Video 2 – Playing with other dogs
Video 3 – Touch assessment
Video 4 – Interacting with other people
